How do I get started with my Bamboo Stylus Fineline?

First, prepare your smart stylus:

1. Please charge your Bamboo Fineline 2 by connecting it to your computer or USB charger, using the cable provided.

2. Your stylus is ready when the LED turns off.

 

Then, prepare your iPad:

3. Open your iPad settings.

a. Activate Bluetooth® wireless.

b. In “General” settings, switch off “Multitasking Gestures.”

To use your stylus, you need to:

Download a Wacom stylus-compatible app and pair it with your stylus. To see a list of compatible apps visit Wacom.com/finelinego:

4. Open the app and find the “Settings” menu.

5. Open the “Settings” menu to enable stylus support. You may need to open a notebook to pair your stylus.

6. Press the button on your stylus. The LED should start blinking blue. Pairing is completed when the LED stays on.

 

7. Repeat steps 4 – 6 when pairing with another app for the first time.

The location of the “Settings” menu and the precise steps necessary will vary from app to app, so it’s best to follow the instructions in the apps. Additionally, apps such as Bamboo™ Paper, NoteShelf and Notes Plus support multiple hand positions in order to maximize performance. Please check for this feature when pairing your app.

 

What is the Bamboo Stylus Fineline 2?

The Bamboo Fineline 2 is a smart stylus for precisely capturing your ideas on the iPad. It provides the most natural writing experience with its thin tip and smart features like pressure sensitivity and selecting handedness in supporting apps.

Bamboo Fineline 2 is compatible with most iPads featuring Bluetooth® Smart technology and iOS8 or later. Although we’re working to improve the compatibility, it’s not yet compatible with the new iPad.

Why is Bluetooth® Smart technology required?

Bamboo Fineline 2 must connect to the iPad through Bluetooth® Smart technology to enable its smart features such as pressure sensitivity and customizable button.

Does the Bamboo Stylus Fineline 2 work with Windows and Android™ tablets?

No, devices with Windows and Android operating systems are not compatible with either the Bamboo Fineline 2 or the original Bamboo Stylus Fineline. How is the Bamboo Stylus Fineline 2 powered?

Your stylus uses a rechargeable Li-polymer battery. Thanks to the low energy feature of Bluetooth® Smart technology, Bamboo Stylus Fineline 2 delivers approximately 20 continuous hours of writing time. A smart power-saving feature extends the active life time and reconnects automatically to the app.

 

When and how do I recharge the stylus?

When the battery capacity of the Bamboo Stylus Fineline 2 reaches about 15%, the LED starts to blink red and you will need to recharge.

1. Remove the cap at the top end of the stylus.

2. Insert the USB cable (included in the box) and connect it to a computer or USB charger. The LED light will display solid red while charging. Your stylus is done charging when the LED light turns off, after approximately 2 hours

 

How do I turn the Bamboo Fineline 2 on/off?

The Bamboo Fineline 2 is switched on when you press the button. If you need to pair it with a supporting app, simply press the button. After 10 minutes without use, the Bamboo Fineline 2 turns itself off automatically. If you want to turn it off manually, press and hold the button for 5 seconds. This will also disconnect it from any apps.

 

How do I hold the Bamboo Fineline 2?

Hold the Bamboo Fineline 2 with the bottom end of the stylus in contact with your hand so it can ground the stylus properly. Avoid placing your fingers on the black tip.

 

What is pressure sensing?

The technology used in the Bamboo Fineline 2 detects pressure when you press the stylus down onto the screen. Adjusting the pressure influences how the lines appear on the screen. Just like a real pen or pencil on paper, pressing harder makes the line bolder and pressing lighter creates a thinner line. Pressure sensitivity makes your stylus work as naturally as possible. Apps compatible with the Bamboo Fineline 2 have various pen tools that also support pressure sensitivity.

 

What can I do with the button?

In most compatible apps, you can select from a range of functions that can be assigned to the button. For example, in Bamboo Paper you can choose between "eraser,” "undo," "redo" and "full screen."

 

What do the LED lights mean?

The LED lights indicate the status of the Bamboo Fineline 2, informing about pairing, connecting or a low battery. There are two colors-- blue and red-- and the lights can either be solid or blinking. Here is an overview of what this means in detail:

 

• Blinking blue light = Your stylus is in the process of pairing with an app

• Blue light on = Your stylus is paired with an app

• Blinking red light = The battery on your stylus is low

• Red light on = Your stylus is charging

 

Does the nib wear down?

You can draw more than 100 km (60 mi) of lines with the Bamboo Fineline 2 on an iPad screen. Replacement nibs can be purchased online at the Wacom Store. For accessories and other product options, go to Wacom.com and click on "Store."

 

How can I find replacement nibs?

Troubleshooting:

 

My Bamboo Fineline 2 does not seem to work. What is wrong?

First check that the battery is charged. Next, check that Bluetooth wireless is enabled on your iPad and activated in your stylus. When you hold the stylus with your fingers in the grip area, make sure that the bottom end is in contact with your hand in order to ground it properly.

I experience an offset between the tip of my Bamboo Fineline 2 and the line on the screen. How can I avoid this?

Only Wacom stylus-compatible apps can properly correct this offset, so first ensure that you are using a compatible app. For a list of supporting apps, visit www.wacom.com/finelinego.

If you still experience an offset, go to the “Stylus” settings in a compatible app and choose a hand position that fits best. Apps such as Bamboo™ Paper, NoteShelf and Notes Plus support multiple hand positions.

If you are using non-supporting apps, you can minimize this effect by holding the stylus in a more vertical manner or by using your iPad in landscape mode.

 

My app screen moves when I rest my palm on the screen. How can I avoid this?

Go to “Settings/General” on your iPad and disable “Multitasking Gestures.”

 

My Bamboo Fineline 2 disconnected accidentally. What can I do?

If the blue LED light is off, reconnect to the app by pressing the button. If the LED light is not on and the Bamboo Fineline 2 is not working correctly, reconnect to the app according to the instructions in the Quick Start Guide www.wacom.com/finelinego.

 

Why does my Bamboo Fineline 2 stop working when I reconnect to an app?

Depending on the apps you’re using, the Bamboo Fineline 2 may disconnect when you leave the app. If the LED light is off, pair your stylus by pressing the button each time you connect to an app.

 

How do I know if my Bamboo Fineline 2 is still paired with an app?

When the Bamboo Fineline 2 is paired with an app, the LED light is solid blue. If it is off, pair your stylus by pressing the button.

 

I lost my USB cable that comes with the Fineline2. Does it use a standard USB cable?
Yes, you can use a standard micro USB cable found at any computer or electronics store.
